AI vs black and white
This was a really fun project to work on. I was provided with a blurry black-and-white image of Laurel that needed to be recreated in colour and upscaled to a large format.
Using AI to rebuild the image proved challenging, particularly because it struggled to interpret the blurred texture. After experimenting with a few different workflows, I found it helped to isolate the problem areas with masking, then re-prompt and generate new texture using high-resolution references.
The final image needed to meet a very high standard, as Adam & Eve were planning to submit it for awards. One of the most rewarding moments was hearing that the Laurel and Hardy Estate were impressed with what we produced, they even reached out to ask how it was achieved, having never seen an image of Laurel in colour like this before. They were genuinely delighted with the result.
